A boy walks down a long street too
enthralled in whatever he's looking at on his cellphone to pay attention to
where he's going. He somehow ends up in a sketchy neighborhood and begins to
looks around in a state of panic before turning swiftly in attempts to leave.
As he turns, of course he bumps into an intimating man. The scene cuts to him
being dragged and thrown into a wall. Eventually, they take his money, jokingly
slap him across the face and leave. He grabs his cell off the ground, checks it
one more time, then snaps it closed. Next scene is of him slowly walking down
the same street, the next day, on his way home with an angry expression. A long
shot shows him walk by a comic store, then backtrack as he stops to look
through its windows. He decides to head in and a short montage shows him
laughing hysterically, making faces of awe, and finally leaving with heaps of
comic books. Back in his bedroom, he's watching anime and reading comics before
he turns off his light and goes to sleep. Next morning, he's out late at night
on the weekend carrying home more comics and reading the back of one as he is
walking. Suddenly he hears a scream and turns and zooms off into the direction
of the shrill. He's taken aback as he turns the corner and a hideous being is
there. He stands in awe (like "hamana hamana hamana") and screams,
only to go cower and hide.
As the being finds him by lifting
up a dumpster, an comic book POW comes from nowhere. He looks up and two girls
cast in shadows are looming above him in a pose. They fight but the screen is
focused on his face. Suddenly it's silent and he begs the girls to become like
them, superheroes, and they look at one another and after a short discussion
disagree saying they don't need another member jokingly. He notices the source
of their power as some sort of gem and apparently says, "okaaaaaay I guess
I just have to-" before he takes the spare gem and makes a run for it. He
stops in the middle of a new alleyway and holds it up saying something along
the lines of "yes! Now I can be strong, like the heroes!" A light
beams and a sequence takes place and before you know it he's in some getup like
a magical girl with the two other girls lost in shock in the background. From
around the corner you can hear guys saying, "what was the light?" As
they round the corner they see the kid they mugged, pause, and burst out
laughing. The boy finally sees what he's in, a cutesy uniform, turns to see the
girls have disappeared, screams, and runs off in embarrassment. He rounds a
corner and tries to take it off to no success and hears a, "that's what
you get!" He quickly apologizes and says he doesn't want to be a magical
girl but a strong hero like in the comic books. They answer it's too late and
he's stuck with the power until he finds someone worthy to turn it over to. The
girls then transform and all three make a pose, though the boy is standing in
the middle being all-awkward.
Next scene shows him in his
room stressing out to figure out ways to improve his embarrassing situation. He
exclaims, "I got it!" As soon as the main girl slams into his window
and yells, "we gotta move! Transform!" He looks at his hand, clenches
it, and says let's go! In this sequence, the cute transformation starts but he
cuts it out with a cool one in the style of the kill bill animated sequence. He
yells, "If I gotta be a magical girl, I'll be the damn strongest one I can
be!" He falls out the window and lands in an iron man like crouching pose.
The girls land behind him, they pose, and they move forward which fades into a
painted background like in hunter x hunter. In an epilogue, the boy walks
looking at his cell phone then sees the guys who mugged him in his new getup,
and all he does is smirk confidently and snaps his phone closed likes he's
ready to fight. ;)
PRODUCTION I.G's KILL BILL ANIMATED SCENE
-I love the sketchy art shoe to this animation
although to some it may look unrefined and too loose. Regardless it's gestures
and movements are believable. Many might also say because of it style, it lacks
detail and creates a chaos in its space. However, I think it perfectly depicts
the chaos taking place in the story as well as the brutality seen between the
characters.
STUDIO MIR
-one thing I always loved about studio Mir is
their attention to movements and their complete understanding of how the body
moves and the timing of it all. I also love how they utilize the entire space
of a scene; their characters aren't static but they move every which way.
However, some people might say they sometimes take the movements of their
characters too far, almost exaggerating even the smallest of gestures.
